Happy 6th Blog Birthday!!

Monday was the blog's 6th birthday, though I can't remember a time when I didn't have the blog.

We passed the 400k hits mark just before Christmas, though things have been slowing down for the last couple of years. I even managed to lose 12 followers in the space of 4 hours in December, I guess they didn't like my Force Awakens post, lol!

Last year I made a few predictions, but I'm learning that they're rather pointless these days. Life keeps throwing curve balls in there to make sure none of us get comfortable (I was made redundant on my first day back after the holidays) and having a little one running around the house leaves little time for anything other than to get your breath back, eat and sleep.

I did manage to get some painting done in the last 12 months (approx. 12 models), and managed a handful of games. I spent money on Batman, Guild Ball, Zombicide, a host of random stuff and even a bit of Malifaux.

I would love to get back to the old days of posting painted models every week, but I've realised this won't happen soon. This year I hope to paint a few more – a model a month would be good – and to play a few more games – again, a game a month would be good. Bull and I have pencilled in a gaming schedule for the coming months so I'm upbeat about that.

As for the rest, bring it on. A lot of things can happen in 12 months – the last year proved that – so let's see where we are this time next year!

  1. Apologies if you've already read or liked this post!

Blogger is playing up these days, so I've had to delete the old post and redo. I find posts sometimes don't appear in reading lists, sometimes they appear an hour or so late, sometimes not at all. I dare not schedule anything else nobody would see what I write. One day Google might fix this!

  2. Sorry to hear about the job Mike, not sure if after Christmas is better than just before or not!

Google did post something on their site a while back saying they were going to stop followers that didn't have a google account, so perhaps that's what caused you to lose a few?

I've often had issues with my posts not showing up in other people's reading lists - this generally seems to happen though if I've left them in draft for a while - these days I always schedule the post when I'm drafting it and just change the date if it's not getting done, and I don't seem to have had any problems since i started doing that (though there is potential to publish a half finished post I guess if I forget one).

Looking forward to seeing more of the guild ball stuff!

    1. Cheers Nick.

I think Guild Ball will be featured quite heavily on this and Bull's blogs for a while yet, maybe with a splash of Frostgrave – that's my prediction for the first half of the year.

As for the job, well, you just have roll with with the punches and carry on. No point letting it get you down.

  3. Happy Blog birthday Mike!
I have the same problem with posts, not everytime but what I do is once I've posted a post for the 1st time, go straight back in and edit it ( add an extra line at the bottom of the post or something like that). For some reason it seems to work. Give it a try next time???

  4. Mike, I had no idea about the job, I was devastated to read that! I am sure that a chap of your ability will find something, but the current uncertainty must be horrible. I shall keep everything crossed for you. Happy Blogday nonetheless and I do exactly what Ray does, sometimes a couple of times until I see the post appear on my reading list.

    1. This is the third time I've been made redundant during my career but now I have a family it definitely feels the worst. it's not of course and things aren't as bad as they might seem – one door closes, another opens …and all that!

  7. Happy birthday dear blog. I am looking forward to 2016 and some game time. Guildhall, Frostgrave and Zombicide for starters.

Get the CV out there. It will all be for the best in the end but uncertainty is a difficult place to be. Keep smiling.
