"Reclusiarch Dannen!"
Scout Sergeant Duun's voice broke the radio silence.
"Reclusiarch, multiple contacts South East, heading in this direction."
"Are they…"
"Definitely Chaos, sir. It's the Arrugginiti – we've found them!".
"Ha! Did we find them, Sergeant, or did they find us?"
Dannen had met this enemy before, too often for his liking. They were malignant as all servants of Chaos were, but there was a cunning about them, tricky adversaries – things were rarely as they seemed. The possibility of 'finding' this foe was so remote that this chance meeting was not down to the luck or skill of the Blood Angels. No, this had the air of a trap about it and he must deal with it accordingly.

So after much baiting from across the pond, the Blood Angels 5th Company finally lock horns with the Arrugginiti – we found a way for me to play against BSmoove, like a long distance chess game on email. We have bigger, more ambitious things in the pipeline but this is our opening round – a 500pt Spearhead/Capture & Control mission played on a 4x4 board.
Because of the accuracy issues in doing something like this, we're using a map I drew of a board BSmoove set up at his home. It's 'kind of' to scale, but we're more interested in the experience than the actual outcome at this stage – it's all about the fluff!
What you're going to find over the next few days is a mix of perspectives. Visit this blog to hear the action from the Blood Angel viewpoint then hop over to A Gentleman's Ones to see things from the Chaos side of the conflict.
On with the action!

THE OBJECTIVES
The Blood Angels are protecting a Communication Array that is keeping them in contact with a nearby Strike Cruiser. Chaos are taunting the marines with the corpse of a dead Blood Angel and the secrets it might hold.DEPLOYMENT
(See maps at the end of the blog)
Chaos chose starting quarter and deployed. Blood Angels deployed in the opposite quarter, Squad Duun infiltrating. Squad Taal makes a scout move. Chaos offers the Blood Angels first turn.
TURN 1: Blood Angels
The Rhino containing Reclusiarch Dannen and Squad Kamor flies out from behind cover towards the middle of the board, on an East South East heading, to get a better handle on things. Squad Duun aims the Missile Launcher at the static Chaos Rhino skulking behind cover – missed – the shot impacting on the building… the Chaos troops know we're here now. Squad Taal opens up on the adjacent Chaos marines with a Heavy Bolter wounding two, one fails his armour save.
First blood to the Angels!
TURN 1: Arrugginiti
The wounded squad dive into their Rhino for cover and advance to where the shooting came from. The second marine squad heads North towards the Blood Angel Rhino. The Chaos Lord, diseases and all, ambles West towards the Scouts, the Raptor squad jumps over to accompany him, then run to get alongside. No Shooting.

"Well done my brave Blood Angels! We have poked a stick in the eye of the Arrugginiti and they do not like it. Keep up the pressure, stay on your toes, remember your training and victory will be ours – in the name of Dante and the Emperor."

THE BATTLEBOARD
This is how BSmoove set up the board for us to game on (in the States). From this photo I quickly drew up the map below as our transatlantic guide.

Don't forget to visit A Gentleman's Ones to see the Chaos perspective!!
I might be biased here, but this is beautiful work. Now back to the mayhem.
ReplyDeleteWell done to the both of you. I am green with envy right now and wish I had someone to do my own Hailed vs Hatred with. An excellent collaboration. I feel that right now this is the best thing going on with FtW and the hobby for that matter. Who cares about 'Ard Boyz when you have Hailed vs Hatred.
ReplyDeleteDespite reading your blog I have no idea why I have not been following it. That has bene corrected though and now I am an official follower. Thanks for the post and keep up the good work.
Super stuff.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, that guy up in your logo there--he's not an ork or cybernetic monkey, is he? I think I finally stumbled upon the fact it's just a guy in a rebreather...
DOH!
Quite a surprise, this! Well done, both of you. I'm quite looking forward to the rest of it.
ReplyDeletejust wondering what program did you use for the maps?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comments guys!
ReplyDelete@BSmoove
I think people are going to get rather excited as this battle unfolds. Already looking forward to the rematch.
@HOTpanda
Glad you're enjoying the series (which to be fair BSmoove has been carrying up to this point). Good to have you on board!
@ WH39k
Yes, the guy in my header and icon is in fact Chapter Master Talon Du'un of the Dark Templar (pronouced Doon, not Dunne as my comic Northern mates would have you believe). The illustration was from the homemade codex I had online many years ago.
@Rabidchild
Thanks for the support. We're both very excited about this and up and coming stuff so stay tuned.
@Swanson
I'm a graphic designer by trade so used primarily Adobe Illustrator to put the maps together then exported them to Photoshop to tweak the resolution for email.
